Kronic Azul 590

Within a relatively short amount of time, Kronica Azul went from being just another cover band, to one of the most sought out and exciting bands to hit the L.A. alternative music scene.

Kronica Azul began under the name Kromos and worked the club circuit for several years doing rock en español covers, and although they were not playing their own material, this gave the band the stage experience that they are now capitalizing under Kronica Azul and their own original material.

At the Unirock Breakout Tour Festival on February 16th, Kronica Azul had their biggest test, as they joined the line up as last minute replacements and were scheduled to follow what turned to be one of the hottest performances at the festival, the all female band, The Sirens.  All of us in the audience were in awe of The Sirens and their energetic performance and thought, “I would hate to be band to follow The Sirens”.  Kronica Azul not only took the stage with confidence, but they put on a riveting performance that not only kept the momentum going, but made us forget about the previous band.

After a performance at the Santa Ana Carvin guitar store for Unirock’s Carvin Live Sessions series, I had the chance to talk to the members of Kronica Azul and here is a peak into our conversation:

Why did it take the band so long to release and play original material?

“Although we were playing covers, we were also working on our own material, but we just didn’t feel it was the right time to play it in front of an audience.  As we began to get more exposure and felt more confident, we decided it was time to only play our own music live but we have also recorded some demos.”

Kronica Azul has a very definite sound, but one can also hear different influences, tell us about your influences?

“We are all influenced by all types of music, English, Spanish and different genres and each one of us have our favorite bands, so we bring it all together and sometimes we may start working on a ballad and it ends up being a rocker, so we just go where the feeling of the music takes us.”

What inspires you at the time of writing your songs?

Rudy Ortega answers: “I am the main song writer and I get my inspiration from what I see in other people, like break up stories or in the case of the songs “No Me Rendire” (I Will Not Give Up), I was inspired by people suffering from cancer who and are fighting against this terrible disease.”

Kronica Azul is definitely a band to look out for, not only are they excellent musicians, but excellent live performers, but Kronica Azul are not only about music, they are also conscientious young men who have started a campaign to raise funds for their foundation “No Me Rendire” which is designed to raise funds to help out people suffering from cancer.

To learn more about Kronica Azul you can follow them on Facebook and their website and their demo can be found on Soundcloud and Noisetrade where it can be downloaded for free.
