Have you heard of “La Mamá del Rap”?

Well Mely Mel is considered to be the first rapper to emerge from the Dominican Republic. She is the only female in her genre to be a song writer and most respected female MC. Her real name is Melony Redondo, born May 6, 1988 in Santo Domingo. In the world of rap she is best known as “La mamá del rap” or “the mother of rap”.

Mely Mel started to develop a passion for rap and freestyle music at the age of 10, she grew up listening to the late Tupac Shakur and started writing lyrics inspired by his music. In 2006 she opened rappers N.O.R.E. and Tony Touch first concert in Santo Domingo’s Guacara Taína, where she performed her 2005 hit single “Fresa”.

Her current single “Mente Daña” (2017) has almost one million views on YouTube.
Mel has also acted in films such as “Locas y atrapadas” y “Todas las mujeres son iguales”, done in DR. Mely Mel is expected to perform at SXSW 2018.

Singer Sean Paul makes a comeback with “Mad Love”

After four years from a hiatus from the music scene, Jamaican singer Sean Paul, just released his new single “Mad Love” along with French Dj David Guetta and Mexican- American sensation Becky G, who has been successful with her song Mayores. This is probably one of the most anticipated comebacks for the fans of the Jamaican singer and record producer. “Mad Love” follows previous singles “She Call Me” and the Migos-featuring “Body.”

Recently Sean Paul said in a press release, It’s been four years since we last got a solo album from Sean Paul, but it looks like he’ll be returning later this year. After landing himself two huge hits by featuring on Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” and Clean Bandit’s “Rockabye,” the Jamaican singer and rapper is ready to capitalize off his resurgence in popularity. After signing with Island Records in 2016, he started work on his currently untitled seventh studio album, and today he’s shared a new single from the forthcoming release.

With production from David Guetta and a feature from rising Mexican-American singer Becky G, “Mad Love” follows previous singles “She Call Me” and the Migos-featuring “Body.” In a press release, Sean Paul said of the song, “I’ve been working on this record for a long time. It was a pleasure to work with David Guetta and his team as we got the production to the perfect sound. It was also great to work with Becky G and her team. Nuff love to all of them! The song is full of energy and I can’t wait for people to hear it!”.

Meet the Dominican Indie Artist King Batey

Urban and Bachata music are two music genres that have been on the top of the charts in 2017. Well there’s a singer and actor that you are going to want to listen, and that’s King Batey. Aneudy Lara, is a Dominican who just released his second album El Rey del Sonido.

Why the king of sound? Well the album has different tropical fusions and is considered very diverse, that everyone se pondrá a bailar.  Lara has worked with different producers on this album, which has 14 songs. Four songs are covers of Panamanian singer El General “No Me Trates Mal”, Prince Royce “Las Cosas Pequeñas” and a tropical mix tribute to the Merengue legends Wilfrido Vargas, Johnny Ventura and Joe Arroyo.

Also, Lara is an actor who has worked with Telemundo in telenovelas like “Más Sabe el Diablo” (The Devil knows More) and “Una Maid en Manhattan” (Maid in Manhattan). Besides promoting his new album he is working on a new drama series also with Telemundo network called “De Pura Cepa” (Pure Strain).

Enrique Iglesias Releases Song with Bad Bunny

Spanish singer and heartthrob Enrique Iglesias, just announced a new single, “El Baño” with Puerto Rican sensation and trap artist Bad Bunny. Iglesias made the announcement by sharing on Instagram and Twitter a twelve second clip of the song.  Iglesias and Bad Bunny’s fans are intrigued about this collaboration since, the trap artist is controversial with his Lyrics and wording of his songs.

“El Baño” follows Iglesias hit “Subeme La Radio” which reached number 1 on Latin airplay early last year 2017. And for Bad Bunny, this is another top notch for his career after the his hit Mayores with Becky G.

Trending Artist: Who is La Insuperable?

Youtube and Instagram have become one of the main media platforms for independent artists to promote their work and talent. But have you heard of La Insuperable aka La Mami Del Swagger. Well aquí te diremos quién es.

Her name is Indhira Ircania Luna, 32 years, born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. At the start of her career she moved to Spain where she currently resides.

In 2008 she created her YouTube Channel, having over 85 million viewers. One of her most viewed music videos is “Dime Linda Te Llenaste De Odio”. It has garnered more than four million total views. And in 2013 she released her debut album, La Mami del Swagger.

Luna has also worked with Dominican, Latin Hip- Hop artist “El Mayor Classico” on the 2013 song ” Ponte Pa Eso”.

Pepe Aguilar to revive his family Jaripeo tradition with Millennial singer Christian Nodal

Ranchero and pop singer Pepe Aguilar, is set bring back the traditional Jaripeos alongside his son Leonardo and daughter Angela Aguilar and Millennial sensation Christian Nodal. This is followed by the announcement of Jaripeo Sin Fronteras tour. This has been a typical tradition that Aguilar’s father the late Antonio Aguilar had done with his family.

The reviving of the Jaripeo tradition by Aguilar and his sons, is very important for the singer because he wants the audience to have an innovative experience. Jaripeo sin fronteras, is going to be an equestrian extravaganza combined with a rodeo. Also, there would be charros and cowboys in fierce competition, American clowns risking their lives with bulls. And what a way to initiate this at the Staples Center on January 27, 2018 the kickoff of the tour.

On inviting Millennial singer Christian Nodal, he said that he’s one of the new music generations who at a young age sings with Mariachi and has achieve great success. Nodal, 19, has managed to win a large audience with his fusion of mariachi and norteño. His international hit “Adiós Amor” reached number 1 on Billboard’s “Regional Mexican Songs” airplay chart as did his other hit “Probablemente”, featuring David Bisbal.

Bruno Mars releases a remake of his song Finesse with Cardi B

Singers Cardi B and Bruno Mars, receive this new year 2018 with a throwback to the 90s, well they have released a remix of the song Finesse. The song was originally released in Mars 2016 album 24K Magic. It was co-written and produced by the Stereotypes. This new version has a new jack swing inspired beat and drums.

On Thursday the music video of the song was released and it has already more than 12 million views on YouTube. After Bruno Mars, Ozuna, JLO, what else is there for the Bodak Yellow singer Cardi B.

Trending Artist: Amara La Negra

Afro – Latina sensation Amara La Negra makes her cross over debut on the fourth installment of the Love and Hip- Hop reality television franchise on VH1 this year. Amara La Negra is a Miami born singer of Dominican descent, known for her Latino urban music, was named in 2017, Billboard’s Artist on the rise. Her hit song Ayy went viral in 2013, making her the queen of twerk. The song has over 20 million views on YouTube. This Dominican star has also worked with top artists like Sean Paul, Kent Jones, Mr. Vegas, and also with fellow cast member and rapper Trina.

As being one of the cast members of Love and Hip- Hop: Miami, Amara’s intentions are to expose her music to the American market. But most of all represent the Afro Latinas, whom she feels have been practically invisible on mainstream media.

Love and Hip-Hop: Miami premiered on Vh1 today.

Are Luis Miguel, Marc Anthony and Gente de Zona doing a collab for 2018?

Salsa singer Marc Anthony and the king of Latin Pop Luis Miguel have been in the loop, for a picture the singer uploaded with El Sol del México. The caption reads “Prepárense para el año que viene” . Could it be that this two are cooking something for their fans alongside Gente De Zona, and musical producer Sergio George? Well let’s wait and see. Gente de Zona and Marc collaborated in the song La Gozadera being one of the top hits of 2015.
The most anticipated comeback is Luis Miguel. After a hiatus from the music scene, El Sol de Mexico has promised to make a comeback in 2018, the first dates of his tour in Mexico have already sold out. In November of this year, he released a Mariachi album ¡México Por Siempre! Which is already Platinum for its high sales. The music video for the single La Fiesta del Mariachi has over two million views on YouTube.
