LOS ANGELES – Urban folk artist De’Anza releases her debut video/single, “Despertar,” for all those Latin Alternative music fans who are on the lookout for fresh and new upcoming artists. “Despertar,” is a sneak peek of her debut EP set for release in summer 2014.
De’Anza Paredes is a singer-songwriter from Santa Fe, New Mexico that relocated to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue her passion for music. She studied at the Los Angeles Music Academy College where she obtained a degree in music and vocal performance.
On the track, “Despertar” De’Anza fuses the strumming of her vihuela, a five stringed Mexican folk instrument and combines it with eclectic vibrant electronic beats and reggae riffs. The song also grooves with a catchy melodic hook that is followed by hip-hop influenced verses that undulate between a velvet and breathy whisper.
The official music video in collaboration with Ecuadorian artist Jorge Espinosa M., will lend a visual backdrop and explore the perception reality.
De’Anza represents a generation of US Latin Alternative artists that live and create art with a bicultural approach for a bicultural audience. Her grandmother migrated to the US from Mexico, which in return exposed De’Anza to a wide range of Mexican and Latino folk music. Also influenced by soul, jazz, reggae, R&B and hip-hop this new Chicana artist is an honest interpretation of a young woman who lives in the hyphen between Mexican and American.
